There is a factory proceedure but when I did mine I just turned the screw clockwise a little at a time to get the most of the play out. Make sure you do not screw it too much and end uo with a "tight" spot in the steering.
Yeah, turn it clockwise or "in". I believe you should only do a 1/4 turn at a time then check it before turning it any further.

Sorry grohorganic- got a little sidetracked and forgot to look up the procedure for you.
I'm a little confused tho- is it a "1988 f 350 4x4 super vac brakes." or "1988 f 350 4x4 super vac brakes."
It makes a difference whether or not it's a super duty. I'm sure super duty is what you meant, I just need clarification.

Do the badges on the fenders say F-350 or F-SuperDuty? Ford did not call any F-350s Super Duty until '99. Before '99 Super Duty refered to the F-SuperDuty trucks, which were F-450s. They were medium duty trucks and were only sold in the cab and chasis configuration.

well its an old county fire truck, foresry, badges say f 350 super duty custom
as far as motor and int. its a 350, after that it is mostly f series parts, 7.3 with a factory turbo, automatic with a PTO ( 3 speed ) and it has 4x4 with a 3 range transfer case. it came as a cab only and has a jonh stamm bed with tool boxes and some other goods. most of the time we call it a 350 for parts, but the shocks we just did neded a VIN to get the correct ones. the stearing gear box is the same as a 350, but the steering has a stabilizer, on the drop link[?]. 4x4 front axle is NOT the standard ford light duty and the rear is a dana(big monster, of unk type) the original VIN plate on the door is missing and we only have the dash vin to go by.
how do i post a pic??????
