Will it work?

I found a carb on a 1979 f-150 and i was wondering if it would work on my truck. i have a 84 302 and i believe the carb also came of a 302 but from 79. they both look like similar two barrel carbs, would this 79 carb work well on my engine?. O i also have an aod tranny and i know there is some special part, and the carb came off a manual tranny but they do look very similar although not identical. any info would be appreciated.

You need the special AOD linkage, and it has to be adjusted right, or you will burn up your tranny. Also check to see if your 84 has a computer controlled carb and ignition. You can look at the radiator sticker and see if it says EECIII or EECIV. Also you can tell if it is computer controlled by looking at the dist. If the dist does not have a vacuum advance can on the side of it with a vacuum line hooked to it, it is probably computer controlled timing. The computer controlled carbs have a throttle position sensor among other things, and the computer is not going to be happy, and make logical decisions about the timing advance without it. If all this is true, you could change out the dist to an older one.
