Hey guys, my carburetor on my 78 400 was jetted for 3000 feet but when I moved to Green River, WY, elev 6300 feet, it started to run quite a bit rich. Go figure. Anyways, if any of you guys have some 50-52 and maybe even some 54's I would really appreciate it. I have tried all the parts stores and Ford just laughs at me. I have found a lot of old Motorcraft 2-bbls but they all seem to be about 57, which is what I am running now. There is no question, though, I am running awfully rich. We could probably just mail them so get in touch of you've got em. Thanx a ton. Oh yeah, I also posted this in the Cleveland forum so I apologize for the redundancy.
I keep looking at this post, wondering what I would do. Do you think you could get somebody to braze some extra jets shut, and then redrill them to the size you need? I was thinking of epoxy, but I would be afraid it wouldn't stay in there. I was also thinking you could maybe drill the jets out extra large before you got them filled, so when you redrilled the brazing, you would have extra wall thickness in the material that was added.
You could solder the jet and then drill smaller. I remember from a long time ago that it is more then just a drilled hole. Something about checking the flow thru the jet. Perhaps the threaded hole could be modified to use Holley jets.
Yeah guys, I think I have found the solution. Another member here told me to get a lower vacuum power valve because my vacuum is probably so low at this high altitude that it is leaving it open and running me rich. So I'm gonna change that thing first and if that doesn't fix it, then I found a place on the net that sells em. Not bad, they are only 1.34 apiece and they have sizes from 38-72. But I don't want to go thru shipping and all that, especially if my power valve is at fault. I will keep you guys update and the holley jets are too small, I already thought about doing that. And that soldering and redrilling isn't a feasible idea unless you are running damagingly rich/lean. A metering jet is a tuned orifice, not just a hole drilled to different sizes. But I have had all the same ideas as you guys so keep em coming. Thanx
I picked up several sets of jets in the upper 50's from a place
called Van's Carburetor in Indianapolis Indiana. Got them through
our local Napa store (Northwest Indiana)---I suspect that they can
supply what you need...these were for a motorcraft 2150 2bbl...and
looked to be "aftermarket" jets....they work well...check them out on
the web....good luck.
