HPX installation questions.

I will be installing a flexible HPX line a little later today. When I remove the two plugs, should I expect a lot of oil to drain out, or will a few absorbant rags suffice?

When I install the two JIC fittings, should I apply Loctite to the threads on the o-ring side of the fitting?

Thanks in advance.

Not much oil and I did not use the locktite. I installed mine on the third plug from the front. I had to rotate a couple of clamps on the lower spider IC boots because they would probably rub the hose.

You will get a little oil seeping out so a rag or two will be handy.

Do not use loctite, since these fittings have o-rings.

What I did, was have eveything ready so when I took out the plugs, the JIC fitting was in hand to screw on fast, then the hose, minimizing less oil seepage. Nothing like working with something with lots of oil on your hands.

Well, just got it in, idle tested fine, and about to road test for leaks. Took in all of your tips and pointers, and it went in fine. The trickiest part was when tightening down, it required some effort to keep the hose from twisting into anything. All went well though.

Like most, I didn't notice any difference in idle. I'll see when I road test it. My main objective for this mod was to hopefully alleviate some of the cold weather romps. I know going to 5w-40 synthetic is the popular cure for this, but after having some stellar OA's on the Delo 400, I wish to continue using it. It rarely gets as cold as it did here last winter anyway.

We'll see. Thanks once again for all of your input.

Glad to hear, was a little late for my advice, lol, but glad it worked out. Let us know if it quiets up things under the hood or runs a tad smoother, congrats.

You ever seen a video of Old Faithful, or even seen it in person?

You'll swear you're rich with all the oil that explodes out!

A rag will do ya fine!

Mike, thanks all the same. More or less did it as you described. Just road tested and all is good, with regard to leaks. As far as smoother or quieter, no. But I think this is due to running B100 anyway. Really amazing the difference in sound versus dino. The bio gives it a muffled clatter and it really does run smoother on it.

So, hopefully the hpx will help out in the winter.

Thanks again.

I am just curious why having O-rings precludes using Loctite? The HPOP lines have O-rings and I had to re-do it 2 weeks after doing it the first time because iIDIDN'T use Loctite.

It takes sometime to work out all the air from that line and then it will quiet down. Give it 40-50 miles of "spirited" driving.

Kinda' wondered that myself as I went through the same thing with my HPOP plugs. But I didn't do it on the HPX. Hmmm.

Cool deal Alvin, 5% bio user hear also. You run a higher consentrate of bio so I see what your saying, I noticed my HPX quietness because of only having a 5% bio blend, good luck bud..

Thanks Clay, good to know. BTW congrats on your new site. I'm concerned for my will power, or lack thereof. You'll be hearing from me soon.
