Power Valve

Hey guys is there a way to figure out what size power valve you need? My dad said you take vacuum measurements at idle and WOT and you do something with the number (he doesn't remember) to figure out what size power valve you need. I was thinking a 4.5 or a 5.0 but I don't want to jump in yet. I am at approx 6100 feet and I am a little rich, but I intend to order new jets along with the power valve. Thanx.

When do you have your rich condition? The power valve only contributes fuel when the vacuum goes low enough, as in pulling a hill or something. A rich cruising condition could only be fixed with the jets, unless you have a leaky power valve which would add fuel all the time, and this is a common thing to happen.

highest vacuum reading at idle and in gear. then divide that number by 2. for example 12/2=6. my understanding is that you don't want the power valve opening and closing during periods of idling. this will create a over rich problem. while you have the carb off consider installing the power valve protection piece if it hasnt already been installed.
