I'm curious as to what kind of equipment you use to saw those bad boys into slabs. Care to share? I'm also curious about logisitics - it's got to be a pretty big piece of equipment to saw a 4 foot wide slab, so do you move the equipment to the logs, or the logs to the equipment?

Thanks,

I'll be using a chainsaw mill. I'll have to get a 60" bar for my chainsaw. Gonna be fun.
I about have everything I need to start slabbing those moster logs. Here's the chainsaw with the 60" bar on it and I got the 60" rails for the chainsaw mill on today but got rained out. Guess I'll start in the morning.
That is great story and sequence of events. Here's hoping you can recover the other pieces of the tree - that is truly a unique way to build some furniture and preserve history. Great story.

Here's the first attemp ripping one of the large logs.
It's actually smoother than the picture would indicate.
That is awesome. That one piece would make a killer table by itself. Looks like fun!! Keep posting progress.
That was just the top starter piece to have a flat surface to work from. I'm slabbing 1.5" slabs starting just under where that piece was. Already got one slab done and now I can't get my saw to crank back up. It's an old and sometimes cranky thing. (But a beast when she does run.)
