A Ford for ya!
the rotating assembly.
ATF down the carb isn't a bad idea, it will eventually make its way into some of
the intake valves and into the cylinders. Personally, I would yank the spark
plugs and put a bunch of oil into each cylinder, using a flexible oil can
squirter-thinger to get it as distributed around all the edges as much as
possible.
Let it all sit for a while (overnight), use a speed wrench or drill on the oil pump
for a little while, and crank the engine by hand using the bolt on the front
vibration dampener.
The objective is to lubricate as many of the internal moving parts as possible,
there's no telling what kind of rust or corrosion or sticking parts (rings) may
be inside.
That's what I'd do if it were mine.
One good thing about dumping some down the intake is that a bit will stay there, and get pulled in when the engine is running until it is all gone. Makes it smoke, but it provides some top end lube for the first couple minutes of running.
Squirting it directly into the cylinders sounds like a good tip too.
what i do is remove the plugs, spray in atf put the plugs in finger tight let it sit a day or to.pull the plugs out and coil wire and crank over till oil pressure comes up.reinstall plugs, and coil wire.after all the cranking there should be fuel in the carb, check accelerator pump,if no gas fill carb through bowl vents and try to fire her up.
