I have a 1967 Ford Bronco. When I purchased the Bronco someone had put a 351 windsor in it but left the stock 3 speed transmission and transfer case in place. I want to build the bronco up to race in the local mudbog events and I need any suggestions on both building up the 351 windsor and the Bronco itself. I plan on rebuilding the windsor and would appreciate any suggestions on the rebuild(I was thinking of a basic rebuild with maybe aftermarket heads with a good exhaust system.) I plan on keeping the same transmission and transfer case along the the stock front and rear ends( ratio I believe is 3.11's?) I want to run my 34 inch tires because I already have them and I am alson working with a $3,000.00 budget. Like I said before any and I mean any suggestions are welcome. Thank you very much..........
That isn't enough gear for tires that big so your trans and axles will take a beating and won't last long, stepping up to 4.10's would help a lot.
All that the engine requires for 500hp reliability are I beam rods and ARP bolts, add a healthy cam and heads and it'll make 400+ hp without any power adders. RHS and Dart have some great iron heads for this motor for very little $$ and TFS provides the best bang in aluminum.. though the Dart Pro1 heads are contenders too. The heads shouldn't cost you much more that $1k and that leaves $2k for the bottom end which should be more than enough.
They never came with 3:11's. Check the axle codes, or better yet put it on jackstands and verify ratio's. 67 stock 6 cyl. came with 4:10's and a Dana 30 front end. After 40 years there could be anything in it.
