Need a little help.

Hello to all. I am new to the diesel world but I will be bring home my 2001 F250 CC 4X4 shortbox with the 7.3 with 92,000 on it. I am pretty excited. Will post pics on Saturday hopefully. The previous owner has a recall on it for the CPS. He stated that he has not had any problems with it so he hasn't had it fixed.
First off I have read threads about if it is black one you are ok, but the gray one is bad. At least thats what I thought it said. So where do I need to look for this CPS and is it something I should take to the stealership to have fixed?

I know you folks will help me out with this and help me spend my money to. Looking forward to it. Hopefully she is a good truck. My first Ford ever.

My first Mod is probably going to be the 6637 intake. Seems like that is the general conseneces. Does anyone know any thing about the Ford AIS system. Better or worse than the 6637?
Thanks in advance for all the help!!!!!!!

The CPS is in the 10 o'clock position (looking from the front of the truck) above the harmonic balancer. Do a search on here and you'll find lots of info on the CPS.

I replaced mine and i believe the new one (from the dealer) was grey, the old one was grey too. I only replace mine because is was leaking oil, it still worked fine.

As far as the AIS system, IT IS A GREAT FILTER SYSTEM, but if you are going to start modding, from what I understand, there will not be enough air flow, so go with the 6637. This should most likely be done first, stock box sucks, then do some gauges, this will allow you a base line on your truck, then the 4" exhaust, then the DP tuner, and then, and then, and then.. Only your wallet can stop you!!

welcome to FTE! The 6637 filter is great. several options out there. The CPS info you already have. I wouldn't worry about having it replaced but I would buy a spare and put it in the glove box. they will fail and strand you. if you have a spare you will never be at the mercy of a tow truck. Join the 7.3 Roadside Help Network, ask Jim(Megawatt)how.
There are several top notch tuners that offer custom tunes for Your 7.3. Power Hungry Performance is my choice. Tony Wildman and DP tuner are others. don't waste your money a "chip in a Box". the list is endless.enjoy the new truck and Welcome to the Family

Welcome to FTE, I think you will find everyone around here eager to help you. Here is a link to the 6637 kit or you can always source it locally at Napa.

Don't replace that CPS if you have a Black one. Take a look and find out. Those are a lot better then the newer gray ones.
