Holley/Motorcraft
I picked up a carb. from the local Pick Your Part wrecking yard off an F250 with what looked to be a 460. I don't know the year as the door tag was missing and the front of the truck was smashed up but good. My guess is late '70's or early 80's. I don't know if that even matters. Anyway on the carb is stamped "Built by Holley for Motorcraft". It is a 4V, vaccum secondaries, electric choke, adjustable floats. From my search I figure it is close to the Holley 4160. The numbers stamped on the carb. are as follows:
E3TE-9510-SB
LIST-50005
0063
My question is, can anyone tell my about this carburator from the numbers? I plant to use it on my 460. How many CFM's? Is it close to the Holley? Is it as good? It needs to be rebuilt but that's not a problem. Will probably get the kit today.
Also, I have an Autolite 4100 on my 390. On these the top comes off to gain access to the bowls. But on these Holley carbs. the bowls come off the sides. Any tips on makes them tight as to not leak? Do you use any sealers or are the gaskets good enough?
Any tips or information will be helpfull. Thanks.
EDIT: I read on a thread that the power valve can be upgraded as to where it won't blow out in case of a backfire. Do the new rebuild kits come with this upgrade or do I have to ask for it? Thanks again.
From what I found I have a Motorcraft 4180 built in 1983. The 4180 is about the same as the Holley 4160.
600 CFM
Good for a daily driver. Probably will get better gas mileage than a 750 cfm. I'll put this carb. on and see how she runs with gasoline.
Anybody else use one? How do you like it?
"You idiot!" So you think the 4100 is a better carb. than the Motorcraft? Any idea how many cfm's the 4100 is? The Autolite came stock on my '64' 390 Galaxie. You mention gas mileage. How about performance between the two. I might want to swap carbuerators from the Galaxie to the truck, '75' 460, since I'm going to sell the Galaxie.
All opinons welcome. All I have to do is figure out the linkage, if it will work. My truck runs on propane now but I want to do some work on the bed and I have to remove the propane tank to do that. That's why I'm looking into running on gasoline for a while. Anyway thanks again. :-)
