Wink Spindle bearing?????

My 3 of 95, f-150, 4x4's driver side had a grinding noise coming from hub seemingly. I took the hub and rotor off, and still hear grinding when i turn the axle. So i took the spindle and bearing(needle bearing) out. It doesnt seem to be grinding when i turn the axle, but their does not seem to be anything wrong with needle bearing. Stumped! any ideas?
Thanks

when does it grind, all the time, low speeds, turning? ... try locking/unlocking the hub and see what happens...the only things that would really cause a grinding in a hub assembly would be bearings or if there is insufficient amounts of grease in there...after a good drive is there any excessive heat?

EDIT:: if it does it with the spindle on but not when the spindle is off there has to be something wrong in that area, carefully check those spindle bearings, they could be seized, or the axle where the bearings ride

but again if you can hear that grinding and the hubs are UNLOCKED so the axle is NOT spinning but the wheel IS then the problem is more than likely a wheel bearing

Thanks

I took the spindle out inspected everything, put it back together, and now all i got is clicking from the auto lockout. Think I may need to convert to manual lockouts. Thanks

heyi have also have a 95 f150 4x4 and had the same problem with my truck. it has 150,000 miles and the auto locking hubs were broke when i bought it 5 months ago and i got some warn lockers in thier place and then i also heard grinding at low speeds and when i looked at the bearings they seemed ok. then i replaced it and the grinding went away. the wheel seals were shot so mudy water got in my bearings. hope this helps.

If in doubt you should just replace the spindle bearings while you have the spindle off, there is quite a bit of load on that little bearing when in 4 wheel and when turning corners especially. Cheap insurance and easy to do when you already have the spindle in your hand to start with.

Wheel bearings are cheap to, if in doubt just replace them all with the races. Best thing to do when you have a unexplained grind/noise coming from a front wheel. If you're the kinda guy that may end up in mud up to the doors (or higher), even if your not, replace all the seals to. Its all fairly cheap stuff compared to needing a tow.

i agree totally, if in doubt replace it all...you dont want to drive with messed wheel bearings that can cause problems...and like he said its cheaper to replace ALL of the bearings/races/seals in one shot than get a tow out of a remote mud hole haha
