What causes my 5.8 to miss and loose power this is an intermiting problem no check engine light.I have tuned up new plugs & wires changed fuel filter and replaced cat converter. and an air sensor.
could be a million things.
Did this just start happening?
Why did you tune it?
How long have you owned the vehicle?
did you check for a cracked distributor cap?
did you check all of the ground wires to make sure there aren't any shorts?
Is there a fluid leak (anti-freeze) getting into the cylinders causing a problem?
Did you test the ignition module? Is it working properly, is it getting wet?
Intermittent misses - does it happen when it is raining, foggy, sunny, dry? Does it cut out after you get done beating on it in the mud pit?
I have owned for just over a month got it from my brother in law he too very good care of it but it did sit up for a while He just ran it local .I though I had the problem solved but it started again this morning. And yes it rained last night I droved it for about 3miles this morning with no missing and parked for about 2hrs then on the way home the missing started. you may be right about cracked dist. cap ,or the ignition module. thanks
Engine missing?! Are you sure? I mean, that's a pretty big component to have just disappear on you! Glad I don't live in your neighborhood.
Seriously though, even though you have no CEL (Check Engine Light) run the KOEO and KOER tests. There are many faults that won't necessarily trigger the CEL but still affect drivability. What model year are we dealing with here?
Code 171 (system too lean bank 1) indicates a lean condition but only from the left bank of cylinders.
Code 401 (insufficient EGR flow) indicates poor exhaust gas recirculation flow through the system.
Both of these could easily contribute to the poor performance. Did the truck run any better after they replaced the sensor? If not, they obviously didn't fix the problem. Those codes can be thrown by a faulty EGR valve, a bad O2 sensor, or even something as simple as a vacuum leak. Too much plain ol' air in the system will cause the sensors to send a false positive for a lean condition.
for a little while meaning 30 or 40 miles ,After that I had the cat replaced which was clog up. but when I put 4-power with 89 octane gas it ran good for a couple of weeks the last fill up I put 87 in it no ethynol. How ever I think I will get the codes run again as per your OBD II. thanks for your help I will post again after I have that scan. Agin Thanks for your in put
Iwill see I did put a better gas in no alcohol and the bronco had been sitting up for 3 years not driven much so it could bee from water in the gas I will see. thanks
