I'd like to buy that intake, if you still want to sell it. Let me know.
not a problem, guess you heard through the grape vine, I am parting that truck out. there was too much torque, and I never realized the frame was rusted. truck is done, and I moved on to a hp 300 efi project
I am sorry you have to get rid of the truck. But let me know if the manifold is available, no cracks, etc., and how much you want for it.
I am tossing around the idea of tossing my autolite 4100 off a pier. From day one I could not get it to idle down to normal--say, 6-700rpm. I thought I had a vacuum leak, checked with starter fluid, replaced the gaskets, and still I have the high idle. The throttle also sticks the last 1/4", and that is really annoying.
I have done smarter things, I realize now. I should have bought a new edlebrock or holley, not a 40 year old carb. But I got hooked with all the hype on the Pony Carburetor's site. I even had to retard the timing a tad to be able to drive it at a lower idle. Yes, I know that is bad. But I had to drive it. So now I have a $600 bucks into a carb I can't get to idle right.
Pony said they would check it out if I mailed it back to them. Maybe the wise thing to do would be ship it back and have them fix it. In the mean time I'll replace it with a edlebrock 500 and a 'C' series manifold, and then sell the autolite on Ebay when I get it back.
It's a beautiful carb, but it's a restoration piece for a OEM mustang from that year. That is what it is good for.
never had much luck with the autolights, even when I was a kid, and they were new.I have used the edelbrocks though. the spacer I bought for the c is change able between the spread bore, and the square bore, I'll include that. pm me, and let's talk. truck is just sitting, and has a lot of good parts for someone
The "Hill" trick was a common way we used to check out the cars of the 30's and 40's.
You dont actually need a hill, just get it up to 70, back off and let it coast clear down to 30 or less and floor it. You'll see some smoke, but it the rest of the world dissapears you need rings.
You can change those Valve seals in the head with just an air compressor and a spring compressor tool. I borrowed my tool from a parts house. Simple thing when you can reach the valves. My 460 was a bit of a challenge but the two 300's were easy and it worked very well to stop the nastyness.
