Tuffy security boxes are a good option for replacing the console. They are not impossible to break into but you really have to want it bad.

If a thief sees a security box, he's gonna want it badly! Police officers, on the other hand, are not going to be happy if you have the gun in a "hidden" compartment. Make sure to keep both hands on the steering wheel and tell the officer you have a secret compartment with a gun in it.

This is a tough one. Depending on which state you are in, you could be treated VERY differently!
