I am looking at economical ways to lower the truck and also some of the only ways I know how at this point. I am looking at the Mono leafs suspension kits for front and back of the 52 for abot 900 bucks. How does themono leaf system ride? (not super important) and is there a better way?
Keep in mind we are not going to change the front clip at this point we just wanna slam it, wire the rusty body together (LOL) and throw and engine in there.
Mr. Mann at Roadsters.com has drop axles for the front (3-4" drop) I got one on my 55, axle on top of the rear springs will drop the rear about 4-6inches there are also lowered rear spring kits from TCI which will also lower the rear about 4-6 inches, lowered front springs, and of course the mono leafs.
Which one of these lowers the truck the most? From what I can tell you can get the reverse eye mono to lower 5 inches? Is there a benefit tot he drop axles?? Does the truck ride better witht he drop axles RYan
It's not as easy as it looks on the front end. When you put in a drop axle, the drag link will not be parallel to the ground and it will not steer worth a durn. You will get into having to modify the steering arms, etc. Check out all the things that will change before you jump into it.
Thanks thats why I am asking while in the planning stage. Any other reccomendations to lower the front? ANd or procedures? I was looking at a kit with mono leafs for the front for 500 andthen just flip the springs in the rear.
DO you end up with the same problem when u use the mono springs?? Ry
To answer your last question first. YES. Lowering by any fashion makes the frame lower than original. So any components not fastened to the frame change geometry. Steering arms, drag links, shock mounts, axle, etc. There is no purely simple answer. As for mono leafs, I have no personal experience, but I've read many posts that expressed extreme dissapointment. A mono can have less arch, and also be thinner than the original stack. But 5 inches seems pie in the sky. [not to mention that they claim this is a drop from "original" height, whatever that used to be.]
For a cheap and fairly simple 2,or 2 1/2 inch drop, have the main leaf eyes reversed {good for 1 1/2 inches} and pull a couple of leafs. If you really want to go low, a drop axle is the only sure bet. Less money than the monos and you could then do the eye flip, etc. Everything needs to be planned out. Pan and drag link clearance, bump steer, shock mounts, etc.
