my truck is acting weard. it surges when going down a hill with the throtel off, and has a ruff idle part of the time. is my pump going out or is it injectors? if it is the pump where do i find a new or rebuilt one???
thanks J
You need to find a diesel injection shop that rebuilds them, you can buy rebuilt pumps but they are normally built on assembly lines and cost the same or more, the last one I had rebuilt was $300, $400 if it needs bored and a piston put in. This is much better b/c one person builds your pump one at a time and if there is a problem you can take it back to that one person and he can fix it as opposed to having to ship it back and deal with returns. There should be several Pump shops around. The one here is called The Pump Shop, and the other is Bama Fuel Injection, your looking for things like that, look in the yellow pages under diesel or fuel injection.
What is the fuel level in the tank selected.......... does it do it on both tanks when the fuel level well above 1/4 full. When was the fuel filter last replaced. How old is the IP that is on there now.
It does it at all fuel levels on both tanks. Filter is was replaced in the last 3 months. I have no idea how old pump is. I got the motor from the junk yard 10 months ago. Today I loosened up the injector lines one at a time to see if it was a injector issue. Wasn'T able to tell any thing from that test. Then i pulled the glow plugs they all seemed fine just a little carbon on them?? German motor craft barue plugs..... I hold em on for 15 seconds been doing that for months. I was susprised to see they held up. What has every one been paying for new pump and injectors? I have also noticed my fuel economy has gone down.
First remove the fuel filter and drain it.
Then refill with Diesel Kleen, start the engine and let it run for 20 seconds, turn it off.
Now let it set for a couple hours, the start and go for a drive.
Second thing is a careful inspection of the fuel lines looking for rust.
Metal line from the tank selector valve to the front and across the crossmember and up to the lift pump.
Surging is probably either a sticking govenor or air in the injection system.
i put the diesel clean in the fuel filter and 2 quarts of atf in the tank ran it like you said dave
it seemed to help but it is not perfect will run it more tomorrow
