Need ashtray fix!
ever heard of inflation?
back in the 70's when you bought a fully loaded vehicle with the bells & whistles...it cost what $3,500?
then used it was $1,500-2,000? sounds familiar don't it
The percentages are roughly the same. But the inflation is huge, and most people rufuse to admit it's importance or deny it exists.
vehicles of today get bad MPG's due to weight and emissions and safety requirements.
HP has gone up 60-80 HP with a smaller engine...but the weight has gone up at least 1,500 lbs for most versions of the F-150
however, get into a wreck in a 04+ F-150 (5 star safety rated BTW) and you are more likely to live. You should see some of the accident pictures where folks have walked away from a crash that would kill anybody in an older 70-80's era vehicle.
$3,000 for a sparkplug change is WORST CASE SCENARIO
It is usually $350-400 dollars for a normal run of the mill change.
And if a plug breaks, it will run about $700. Only if all other methods fail (almost never happens anymore) will it cost that $3,000.
You said you drove a 70's pickup for 18 yrs?
I can name 10 things in 30 seconds on my 1971 C-10 that drove me bat**** crazy after 5 minutes if I paid attention. I ended up working that truck over from bumper to bumper, and I couldn't fix all of those little isues...would have required a 100% Frame Off Restoration.
and you lived with issues like that for 18 yrs...but a little piddly door has you wanting to ditch a virtually new truck and go to a inferior truck that will be plagued with similar issues? something does not equate here.
sorry. It bothers me when people approach a problem from just 1 perspective. Especially when you can look at it from both sides, and see it isn't even a problem. Or if they create an issue to justify something.
that's cool, and we all understand that.
Just try to be a bit subjective first. Especially before you come onto a F-150 Forum and start bashing away about stuff that just isn't true.
I don't go knock on the 70-1981 trucks...not particularly a fan of them. I'm more a 92-96 Bronco guy personally
