Homer - thanks. The core was already turned in, so stealing the solenoid off isn't an option.

I'll start calling around tomorrow to see if I can find a solenoid.

start

got wires off, including ground, with stud, got the top bolt out, and pulled on starter, nothing. is there a third bolt or could it need a little tap or 2. thanks

3 bolts...it's up there hiding. It's a PITA to get to. I hope you have skinny hands. I had to use a deep socket and a 6'' ext. with a rachet. I could only get 1/8 of a turn on it. It took a while.

Reman Alternators

My advice is to find a local auto electric shop. Normally 1/3 of the reman price, you have your original, and its better workmanship to boot. Plus keep a workin man employed. I have had 3 bad remans, but never 1 bad rebuild!

Piraman - After having gone through multiple remans, I would agree with you. I eventually found a solenoid at a local electrical shop and they were good about testing the starter after installing the solenoid.
