Eratic Front diff engagment
I have a 2004 f-350 lariat 6.0l, roughly 245,000k. I was on a long trip 1200k, after 150k the front end started making a grinding noise, then it felt almost as if something was binding. I have replaced the stock auto hubs with warn heavy duties. Regardless I pulled the centres to see if it made a difference, it didn't. After the next 100k it stopped. Drove the rest of the trip with no issues, except the last 100k. Found a little trail went for a quick rip and started making the noise again. Got home, pulled the driver side hub assembly and found someone had tinkered and put the spacer washer inside the hub instead of between the hub assembly and knuckle seal. Have since replaced needle bearings and knuckle seal to no avail. Still sounds like front is trying to lock, when both hubs are locked there is no noise, any ideas????? driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated.
