Fuel Gauge Sending Unit

Fuel Gauge Sending Unit
Where in the tank is the sending unit located. More towards the front of the truck or more towards the back. I have been getting some odd readings lately. My truck fell off of the jack stands I had it on a few weeks ago when I was removing the leaf springs. The floor jack I had under the rear axle dented the gas tank when it fell. Im thinking it may have bent the sending unit inside the tank.
