I have never done ball joints etc, but will be tackling this project friday night, upper a-arms, lowers, tie rods, etc. I was reading Racerguys instructional forum here and reading all the replies. I bought all my parts today, and after reading all these posts tonight, I am for the first time seeing this "adjuster cam kit." I did not buy this and had never heard of it till now, but is this mandatory? I will be having help with a few buddies who have done ball joints numerous times, this being my first, and we will have no problems. But I am just confused now if this "adjuster kit" is something I should go purchase, is it necessary, etc? The truck will be completed friday night and then going to the alignment shop first thing saturday morning. Its a 2002 4x4. Thanks for any input!
the upper A arms are held on with two bolts in elongated holes. you can move the A fram in or out at the front bolt, or in- out at the rear bolt to change the castor and camber. THe "cam" kit is just a plate that sets over the bolt and has marks on it to see what movements you make. I dont use the kit. I take a sharp punch and put a dot on two sides of each washer of the bolt. After taking the A frame off, install the new, and put the bolts back in the same place, using the two punch marks to relocated the washer on the bolt. you can tap the A frame in or out to get the exact same location as it was removed. If its correct now, it should be o.k. then.
