AFE bogus claims??

Hey I was on a website that sold AFE air intake products and they said that an AFE Pro-Dry S intake system would add 17 hp and 21 lb.-ft. of torque. To me that seems a little on the high side. Any input??

Not necessarily. If you replace an old clogged up filter with a new one that provides a little better airflow, you can gain 5-20 hp.
Now... you can get the same HP bump just by replacing the filter with a stock one as well.

Just keep that in mind.

their claims are true...with the following disclaimer

"A performance tuner was used in conjunction with the CAI to achieve the DYNO results shown"

just slapping a CAI onto the motor will do nothing to help increase HP/TQ. You have to tell the PCM that it is there, and have the PCM adjust accordingly.

a little bit of fakery that all of the companies use. Since you already have some tunes from 5-star tuning, I suggest you contact them and see what CAI they recommend...and tune for. Most N/A 5.4 motors can be pretty easily gotten to about 245-250 RWHP with a CAI/Exhaust/91 octane tune.

yeah he says to use s&b but that even with tunes for it one would only gain 5-10 hp mostly above 4000 rpm. i'm thinkin now i'll probably do the "gotts mod" that i've read about on here

good choice.

PHP has shown a +7 HP gain with tuning by removing the Factory Snorkel from the fender

The CAI's are nice and all, but they are only really good for noise. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat because I love that 4-barrel big block noise though.

I have one on mine, and didnt notice any perf dif. But I doubt I would notice 10 hp anyhow. hitting the freeway with passing gear sure sounds good with the magnaflow muff. But in town driving I wouldnt mind if it was a little quieter.

Hey guys I did the "gotts mod" that I've read about on here. I'm a welder and have access to aluminum so I used a chunk of aluminum pipe instead of plastic. That worked out great. Now I want to polish out the pipe for better underhood looks. Do you guys think I need to have Mike from 5star redo the tunes on it??
