how in the world do u guy take these trucks off road...
OMG i took mine off today and the ride quallity is so poor. i was crawling through not major and i hit the roof with my head. bounced into the back seats almost.. i mean this trail was nothing, something i would go thru in my vw bug or my bros old jeep at aroun 60mph!!!! is this common, or is my suspention blown???
I have not had my 1984 Ford diesel off road yet, but I take my 2002 off road all the time and it kicks my *** a little bit.
I just figure these big heavy trucks are not really designed for fast off road travel. They have 4x4 so that when you are working in a sloppy area, you do not get hung up.
Think like pulling a skid steer through a muddy trench or something. That is what I beleive they are meant to do. Not really recreational off road stuff....unless you want to have your but kicked.
When I take mine off road back into a lake or something, I just let a lot of air out of the tires and travel nice and slow. If you want to smooth out the ride some, load your bed with about 500 lbs of dirt or rock, that will help
I think I was able to hit 50 MPH with my F150 before it would start floating on the pebbles. Soft suspension, soft tires means it can do that. My Dad's GMC will start to shake sideways after 35 MPH at the slightest pot hole when empty. Haven't taken my F250 on logging roads much but its not nearly as good as the F150.
Seriously, an 86' F150 rides NICE!!! F250.....not so much but still pretty good.
I try not to off road my 84 F250, it's too damn heavy and has zero flex in the suspension. It actually gets stuck pretty easy because of it, having open diffs front and rear doesn't help either. And like you said it just beats the crap out any one who dares to ride in it. It's a terrible wheeling truck but she pushes snow like champ!
nah it to rough to do anykind of offroading.. i mean 15mph and my head hurt from hitting the roof... my bros jeep xj with 4in blocks was a nice ride as long as u have 4points to keep u in th eseat not those junky stock belts... but the bug is so much smoother. i jusr glid over dumps even though i have about 7in of total wheel travel
I know what you mean about stiff suspension and getting stuck. I have posi on the rear, but my truck will tear out the drive way with anything more than egg shell throttling to get out.
Stiff springs, flexible frame. Sounds wrong but it works right. These trucks were part of a forgoten art of treating the chassis as part of the suspension and allowing it to flex and help follow uneven terrian.

well said mine loves snow ALOT more than mud or something. I have 33" bfg a/t tires that do AMAZING in snow it makes plowin so much fun cuz your the only one not stuck
Shoot i dont like takin mine out in the back 40 on the farm even. All the holes from the damn woodchucks limits your speed to about 5 mph. Even then im half afraid im going to break the front axle. Also with that heavy engine and 2wd with an open diff sure makes it easy to get stuck. Always have managed to get it out under its own power, but theirs a few times it would have been easier just to get a pull from some one else. Worn out rear tires dont help either
