I started mine one time at -15 on a scout campout, she was not happy! clattered and smoked for about 10 minutes!

I also use the block heater to avoid long warmup idling, since it's not good for these engines anyway. High idle mod this for this winter for sure.

I use mine when it gets below 32 degrees outside. Plug it at 9pm leave at 5am. Haven't noticed that much difference in the heating bill.

Mine is plugged in from the time I get home till time I leave for work in temps below 25-30 degrees. I'm fortunate enough that I work for a trucking company and am able to plug truck in while on the road for my shift during the night. Use Shell Rotella 15W-40 year round w/o any problems (changed every 5k). Our company trucks all use dino oil. Remote start works better too when plugged in. Truck still goes into hi-idle on it's own even when plugged in....cool sound!

Has anyone installed or have any experiance withan oil heater in addition to the block heater. I have though about putting one on my truck for easier starts and reduced idle warmup times. Plus I like the idea of getting heat sooner.
