It's simple. You should have the starter solenoid mounted to the inner fenderwell; this is how it grounds (there must be a ground strap from the firewall to the engine block as well). The battery cable goes to the large terminal closest to the battery. The starter goes to the other large terminal. A hot-in-start wire goes to the 'S' terminal of the solenoid. I believe this wire is originally red with a blue stripe, but a test light would make quick work of that assumption. These are the minimum components necessary to crank the motor over.
