I heard that it is possible to get emmissions exemption for vehicles with certain driving requirements, besides the year. is this true? I live in california. i want to see if i can get this for my truck that i will only use offroad and low mileage use
Sadly, if it's a '74 or later, and it's intended use includes any public roads for any milage no matter how limited, it requires a smog check. Exceptions include if you just bought it and are moving it to your place (I think you have 11 days), or if you're moving farm equipment. This is what the DMV told me....BUT, I have discovered that they seldom know. I once had a Fiat with a 49 cubic inch engine. Turns out that at that time, an automobile engine smaller then 50 cubic inches didn't require smog. Well, I had to argue that with them for hours, and it wasn't settled until they called CARB!! So go check it out, there may be loopholes! Polkat
