Another Sucessful Trip

Hey all,

Just came back from another trip from NY to PA. I moved my cousin from PA to NJ, then back to NY I came. Anyway I went about 700 miles altogether and I averaged 20.16 mpg again. This is the third trip with that mileage so I can say I am happy.

A couple of things I found on this trip:

My pinion seal is leaking. Is this repair covered under the Ford Premium Care ESP or not. I am approaching 60K fast and was going to have the transmission flushed and filters replaced as I dont have the machine to do it so I was going to have them do that too...if it was covered.

I have a bent wheel...or 2. I was searching around for new take offs but all I can find is for 08-09's and lots of 1/2 ton stuff. Should I just go aftermarket or give Ed a call, I'll make sure I am sitting down when he gives me the price.

Other than that the trip was great and the truck performed well.

you aren't-a-kiddin! I bought one off of ebay - took a chance, turned out OK.

Welcome back from the trip. Glad you got such good mileage again!

yeah i dont think your pinion is under warrenty. powertrain warrenty is 100k 5 year. your rear end isnt powertrain. if anything it would be covered under 3 year 36k but your over. and a bent wheel? did you hit something?

Congratulations on another good trip. I can't vouche for the pinion seal being covered, but I got mine replaced for my $100 deductible a couple of months ago. I think they just wanted to avoid the process of chasing down if it was covered or not.

I have a premium care ESP, I know it woulnt be covered under the power train warranty. A as far as the wheel goes, 4 years in the pot hole infested stae of NY I am sure that I may have hit one. Not intentionally but I knew I had 1 or 2 that had a slight bend to them when I put new tires on. I though there was something wrog with my balancer and took them to a tire shop...they confirmed it wasnt the balancer but the wheels. They were on the back of the truck and I rotated the tires before this trip casue it was time and its obviously more noticable up front.

yeah i dont know about coverage then. but wow you must have hit pretty hard to bend a wheel. never herd of that before. sounds like the kind of bump you go over and you hope your head doesnt go through the roof!

Thanks William,

They are the 5 spoke 18" aluminum wheels. I will pst a pic. My HD crashed and I didnt back it up so I lost all my pics. Its good to hear that the pinion seal is covered.

I just searched EBAY and found none of what I am looking for. There are tons of 08-09 take offs though. I will call ED in the am see what he says or if he cant point me to another sponsor on here.

As far as bending a wheel, I am sure that those crappy Conti's that were on there didnt offer much protection for the wheels, and its not like they are bent to the point the truck is not driveable, just a vibration at 45 and then again at 65. So I didnt drive at those speeds much, but now that I am home 45 is about where I am all the time.

Load rated E tires - they are great potection against pot holes when aired to 80 psig (however, every little pot hole feels like a big pot hole).

Yeah I hear ya Mark,

I have BFG's All Terrains load E's and I keep em at 65 psi, so yes every pot hole I feel but I dont need to bend anymore wheels. LOL. I have seen a few on Tire Rack I like I just want to get the stock size and width. Not interested in wheels that stick out past the flares or anything taller and what not. I dont what to buy new tires either.

They should be the same as mine:

Not the best shot but it's the factory 5 spoke 18" wheel. I like those wheels above Sarge! Nice.

Glad to hear about a successful trip. At the end of sept i will be making a trip from here NC to VT and back. Just the round trip is 2K+ miles, not including all the traveling I will do when Im there, so will be every bit of 2500 miles. I hope to have a good report like you. Kind of anxious to see what kind of fuel mileage I will get as my speedo is off and have never checked it since I lifted my truck, but will track it with my GPS.

As for the wheels, I think your truck could bennifit from something else, I dont care for those much.

Yup those are the ones, thanks for posting the picture PowerStroke. I have my eye set on a set of Dick Cepek also so I am not sure what I am going to do.

I have Ultra wheels on another truck i have and they have been good wheels so far. I think I have put on around 40 or 50k on then with normal pulling and all around driving and have had no issues.
I also bent a wheel on an E-250 I drive for work and cannot remember EVER hitting anything or curbing anything that should have done it..... I think the factory wheels are just getting a little lighter then they used to be. Not saying bad, just maybe a little lighter.

IMO, those Ultras would look SWEET!
