I have a 1983 ford ranger 4cylinder. when i start it it runs fine, until after i give it gas. it starts to die and if i dont keep it up with the gas it dies. when i just barrely have the gas on and it runs fine. everyone tells me its the idle and that i need to adjust it.
where is it and how do i adjust it. i am so stupid, please help me
If it runs fine when you first start it (before giving it gas), it's not the idle. If you live in a cold area the choke might be flying open when you first touch the throttle, which would cause it to stall of the engine is still cold. Let the engine cool overnight then pull the air cleaner and see where the choke is. If it's closed, blip the throttle once (engine off) and see where then choke is then. If it's still closed, then yes, try turning the throttle speed screw half a turn in and see what happens.
its like this you got all kinds of screws in there. your carb will have two air adj screws that will look the same and a big fatty that looks almost geared on the end like you could out pliers on it and it would grip, turn it clockwise 1/2 turn and go for a burn
