The problem with searching for " 9" " is the search function won't recognize it, since it is too short. If you search for "disk brakes" or "brake conversion" you get a million posts about front brakes, D60, D70, etc.

To the original poster, I have been looking into my next swap and I found a way that seems to make good sense:

2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 front rotors and studs
Weld on brackets (Ruffstuff Specialties for their great products/service)
GM 3/4 ton front calipers

If you look at the dimensions for the Dodge rotors (Napaonline.com), they look like they will fit over the axle flange without having to machine anything, and the studs are real close to the studs that came on my 1977.

All of this can be done for $200 bucks and be legit.......but this is all speculation as I haven't tried it myself

I like what 75F350 has posted since I have a 10 bolt front sitting in the yard, but Im not sure if I want to go this route incase I break an axle on the trail and have to put the mentioned spacer cap on keeping in mind the pressed on bearings. Then again, if these things are cheap, it might not matter.

The only thing to look out for on the slide on Dodge rotors (4wd front rotors) is that many hard larger wheel studs than the stock 9" rears.

I will be using some dodge rotors on my full floater 9", but the hubs have oversized (9/16" or 5/8") studs in them.

Napa has the studs listed as 1/2" 20 (BK 6411592) for that year Dodge. Is that the same as the Ford?

If memory serves then yes - but I'm not 100% positive.

BUT - I have in my notes of what rotor to use = 2000/2001 Dodge 1500 4wd front rotor and my notes say it fits over the studs on my hubs - which should be 9/16".

The ID on the inside of the rotor is 6.525".
Rotor thickness 1.310" & Rotor dia. = 11 3/4"

I measured a BUNCH of 5x5.5" slide on rotors for using them in converting 9" to disk brakes.

I have used 1982 Jeep CJ-5 4wd front rotors in the past with luck on a 9" disk conversion.
Those have the ID on the inside of the rotor of 6.550".
Rotor thickness 0.875" & Rotor dia. = 11 7/8"
They also have the holes that slide perfectly over the stock 9" studs.

I havent messed with it for a bit now but I remember having troubles finding a rotor with a hat that would fit over the outer axle flange. I decided to wait until after I order my new axles for my narrowed 9 inch to work on it any further.

As I said - I have used these. They fit over the flange on the 66-77 Bronco 9" I used for my old exploder.

I have been looking into this last weekend. 2 questions, hopefully not to stupid, and someone can direct me.
1) Is this the big bearing axle retainer that compensates for the difference in brake backing plate to caliper mount? axle retaining plate
2) Are the rotors for a 78 1/2 ton 4x4, not 2x4? The only 2x4's I could find had hubs attached.
Thanks for the great idea!!

yes the rotors are for a 4x4. The 2wds are a hub.rotor in one and have the studs pressed in. The 4x4 rotors are a "slide on" rotor that slides over the hub/studs.
