Quick ? on tires...

I have a '92, F-150, 4x4, I6, with 8.8" rear axle, 3.08 ratio. I was wondering If I can run the 31x10.50R15 tires.

I would like to go up another tire size for look, traction, and stability.

Any ideas would help.

Thanks,
Matthew

you should be able to fit 31s without a problem, but if you go any bigger you will need a lift. 32s require a 2.5" lift or they will rub.

If you intend to haul anything, tow anything, or have a drivable truck you will need to change the gearing if you go to much bigger tires....

White 97 xlt, "...will need to change the gearing if you go to much bigger tires.... ", so it isn't a good idea then? I don't want to go any bigger than that. what would you recommend for a tire size? I'm just sick of the 235's I have on it right now with a 15" rim.

as for the gearing, mine to change would be really phun!! Pun intended! From what I have read, I would also have to change the gearing in the front, correct? That would be the "phun" part of the job.

if you do go with larger tires, it would be best to change the gears in both front and rear. if you only want a mild lift, i would look into a 2.5" with 31" tires. it would look pretty good and, depending on how you use the truck, you may not need to change the gears. for example, if you haul/tow often, changing the gears would help with gas mileage and moving the load.
here is a link to a gear ratio chart: http://www.4lo.com/calc/geartable.htm

good luck

You won't have any problems running that size tire on the stock rims and suspension. That's all i've ran since i bought the truck.
