I have a 2000 Explorer XLT with around 33,000 miles on it. It will start, but dies out immediately after unless I put my foot on the gas. If I give it 500-1000 RPM's it will keep running, but regardless of the gear, I must keep my foot on the gas to avoid stalling.
In a few isolated instances over the past 2 months or so the car has occasionally been unable to start unless I applied some gas. Today however, the engine started up, but died about 1 second later. Always before a little gas during ignition solved the whole thing. No amount of gas or revving in Neutral would keep the engine idling once I took my foot off the gas.
Coincidentally, I accidentally added Premium gas instead of my normal Regular a few weeks ago. Since then I decided to go with the middle ground of Super, and I've put in a little over 2 tanks full of Super now.
Knowing that, should I take my car directly to a mechanic to have them look it over, or should I fill the rest of the tank up and add one of these Chevron cleaners I keep hearing about?
