460 starting problems still

I have a 460 in my 79 f150 and i am having starting problem when the engine is hot. i have tried backing the timing off, and wrapping the starter in heat shield. also have replaced the starter and checked wiring. anyone got any other ideas??

Are you running headers? You might want to try using a wrap on the header.

Be more specific when you say you have starting problems. What specifically is happening? Cranks over slowly? Doesn't crank? Cranks, but doesn't fire?

Gotcha. The next time you have this problem, pull out a multimeter and measure the voltage across the battery terminals. Report back with the number you see.

just started the truck right now cold... started good. once the truck warmed up shut it off and tried to start it again. cranked very slow before finally starting. then shut it off again and it cranked fine this time. ahhhh!!! very aggravating. the battery reads about 12.25 hot or cold shut off.

How do your battery cables look? What size are they? Resistance increases with heat, so any non-ideal resistance in the starting circuit will increase with temperature. As current increases, the voltage drop across any resistance increases, which will lower the turning power of your starter.

They can look fine externally but be corroded on the inside.

Is there any difference between a 79 flexplate and a 71 flexplate, other than one is weighted and one is not. are the teeth count the same?

I do think the tooth count is different but I do not know for sure have you checked to see if your plug wires are fine yet same idea resistance increases how is your spark
