Neat stuff Bruce. Don't know that I'd want to go camping there any time soon though if that's what they have available to camp in.

Are you kidding? That would be the coolest thing ever- Take some old Soviet military vehicle, turn the box into a camper, and go out across the wilderness? Where do I sign up?

The answer to the question on everyone's mind this summer: "What's Ivan drivin'>"

Truck with a metal box = better chance in bear country, and Russia is, after all, bear country.

Some look baaad stuck. Wait for spring stuck. Or maybe that's wait for winter for it all to freeze so it's solid.... Bring lots of food.

Prodigious amounts of vodka would be mandatory after several hours behind the wheel of one those monsters.

Unimogs are awesome machines Jim! I would love to get one. I've checked several places and have found a bunch of them but it's not in the budget just yet....one of these days though.

There used to be a place in Westchester county that sold surplus ones from the Swiss military for 12-16k back in the late 80's.

Awesome approach/departure and a winch that could lift it up a tree.
Pto and a three point hitch made them very versatile off road but I can't imagine traveling any distance in them.

They were also sold domestically through Freightliner for a short while a few years ago. On these, the entire driver control system moved on rails from one of the side of the cab to the other so you could change from left to right hand drive. With all of the implements they sold for them such as the mowing equipment, I figured this was at least due in part to the need to be able to see the right side of the truck like when mowing roadsides, etc. It was a very neat setup.

Here's one of the ones I was talking about with the selectable left / right hand steering Jim.

It says it down in the specs.
