So my brothers powerstroke has some problems, When he goes to start it it smokes white and takes forever. Last time it took 4-5 tries to get it started, and man did it smoke white down the block.
We have debated about glow plugs, injectors, or if its cause his trucks ugly. The temperature was 75 degrees out at the time, so I dont think glow plugs......What do you guys think ???
IDK what HPOP is, It has a 3 inch down pipe, 4inch exaust, with no muffler. Has a factory replacment K and N. Thats all that we know about. He baught it 1 month ago. Does this help.????
yes it does...except what does IDK stand for? Hopoh stands for High Pressure Oil Pump. If it ain full it aint runnen right. Big dumb thing at the front of the engine.

I would go back to the pump or the rings. From what I am told the pump should be within a 1/4' from the top. It is a start, someone else will most likely be able to help more
Sounds like it's getting fuel. Might be weak batteries. Does it smoke a lot after it's been started and running for a few minuets? How does it start after the engine has been running for awhile and you shut it off and go to re-start it right after?
my truck starts fine but i get white smoke for the first 15-20 seconds after start up first time i start it for the day, even at 75 degrees, i don't think its normal but it runs great otherwise so i havn't really looked into it too much although soon i will start looking into it.
Well yes it does smoke for a good minute untill its warmed up a bit. But after he drives it, it starts fine evertime. Its just the initial after it sat all night thing. And he was sayin he needs to get it figured out before winter comes, Because if its this hard starting now, can you imagine when its 0 out.
He did say the other day that the battery light came on. So he was watching it and then he turned on the radio and it went off. When he shut off the radio it came back on. So then he turned on the vent fan and it went off, shut it off and the light came back on. I said alternator isnt charging until a load is put on the batterys. How could weak bateries effect hard starting???
if the batteries are a little weak it isnt turning the motor fast enough, the motor in these trucks has to be turning mighty fast, even if it seema like it is turning fast, put in new batteries and you can tell the difference.
I'd definately go thru the glow plugs, sounds like several are not warming up and thats why it's blowin blue on initial start up, check the wires, pins and if all's ok I'd start by using a laser thermo gun and check the exhaust manifolds right at the block for each cylinder and see which ones arn't warming up right after starting....
