fuel issue?

I got a 91 f350 7.3 today. its really nice, but it does have an issue.

after it heats up and you shut it off, you can start it back up just fine. but if you wait 10-20 minutes and try to start it, it hardly starts (cranked on it forever, tried starting fluid and everything, then we let it sit for about 8 minutes, and it fired right up again).

anyone know what is causing this?

air wouldnt explain it restarting after half an hour though.it would be harder to start the longer it sat.when an ip gets hot it will run fine until you shut it off for a few minutes and try to restart.i have personally not had a problem with my ip but that kinda sounds like other guys symptome before the swapped their ip.someone else will jump in and give you their opinion.but that is the first thing i would think.hopefully its not because the ip is one of the more spendy things to buy for these trucks.about $400 so i really hope that isnt it but it may very well be.

you can score remans with out core charges for less than that so do your homework and look around! I would say IP as well, like the fellas say, when it is cold the parts have less clearnace and the tolerances between metal parts is less. As they warm up, they become looser. I will say that usually this will shut the engine down and cause rough driving, is it smooth running until you shut it off or does it get rougher and rougher as it warms?

this thing is acting weird. this morning I couldnt get it started. I cycled the glow plugs and even gave it some ether. i tried to get it started for 15 minutes or so, and had no luck.

well i came back 2 hours later and it fired up in about 30 seconds

it should have popped right off with a small amount of ether did it fire when you sprayed it or did white smoke come out of the exhaust?mine did that once when it was out of fuel and my gauge was messed up.........make sure your getting fuel but i would think it should fire off the ether even if just for a second or 2
