just got my truck back from the dealer with a new egr, icp, and some heater thing that had somthing else that hadto do with coolant leaking into the injector. i just went to fill it up with gas and put 35 gallons in it, and now the fuel gauge is reading its only half full. ive tried shutting it off and starting it a couple of time and it just goes back to half full.
any ideas?
My truck did that once. Every time I would star it, it would come up a little more until it finally read correctly. I imagine it can only correct X percent at a time so the gauge doesn't bounce around. I would give it awhile and see if it catches up. I could actually see it bump up a little each time I restarted. It was a one time fluke and has never done it again.
- did this happen again. I have Job 1 450 that just had valve cover gaskets replaced. Driving home 50 miles from dealer fuel gauge went from full to half, then20 miles later back to full. 2 days later, again under stready highway driving went from 3/4 to 1/4; 20 miles later went back to 3/4. Then last night in stop and go, over bumpy construction, went from 3/4 to empty - out of fuel in 50, then 25, then 10 mile notices on dash. no leaks anywhere. put 15 gallins in (ignition off) just to be sure. still reads empty and 4 miles to empty on gash message center. Wiggled wires at tank sending unit - noting lose and ohm readings look normal for 3.4 tank. (1.5x100 ohms is empty; 1.5 is 1/8 and I have .08x100 ohms).
Just a hopefully brief comment: I had repeated problems with my fuel gauge slow to show full, then it would just drop to zero for no reason, full/1/2 full/ 1/4/whatever level. After 20,000 miles of screwing around, they finally replaced the whole instrument cluster, shazam, that solved the problem. Sometimes it is hard to keep after the stealership, but it pays off in the end. Finally, supposedly a bottle or 2 of Techron in the tank can help with balky sensors.
