I've been having grief with my starter with it just not engaging my flywheel It happens randomly, like this morning. I go out to start her up and "WHIIIZZZ"... so I change from the 5th tune of my chip to the 1st.. and it catches. Silly. So here is my question:
Can I use a starter for an '02 in my '99? I have one from DB Electrical for the 99, and it is the same physically as the one I took out. But the engine didn't change, or the transmission... so, can I try the '02 starter? The '02 is physically shorter, but would it work?
I'm guessing yes, but to be sure, lay them side by side and just check the measurements on the working side. If it will bolt up, the gear looks the same, and it extends out the same distance to engage the flywheel, it doesn't really matter the lenght of width of the motor housing on the back side.
You will need to inspect the solenoid to be on the safe side since the 02 no longer has the fender mounted relay solenoid. Might need to swap solenoids.
