Do It When It's Easiest!

i have been chasing a hpo problem all weekend (mon-wed for me) after my adrenaline install. kept on getting wacky and high icp dc% readings. normally that means a little air in the oil rails. so i bleed the rails and i get normal numbers for a cycle (starting then driving about 20 min) then back to jacked up high numbers on idle and driving on the next cycle. so i replace the icp thinking maybe i fugged it up when my truck burped out a huge air bubble after the adrenaline install. got normal numbers on startup then wicked high numbers on the next test drive. now i filled up my tanks before all this and im down to a half a tank just test driving and troubleshooting! talk about an expensive test drive! well anyway i got to thinking about it and it hit me! huh! the ipr probably controls what the icp sees! so i do some digging around and find one about 15 minutes away from my house (powerstrokeshop.com) come back and was only going to slap the new sensor on the rebuilt ipr i got from dieselsite but then decided to just put the whole new unit in to avoid a second r&r of the ipr. so i walk over to my handy dandy toolbox, pull out my 1 1/8 deep well socket and try to take out my ipr. well the little hole up in the socket isnt big enough, soooooo....... i bust out my drill and start going to town on my socket. custom tools are the shiz anyhow. well after going through all 4 of my 18 volt dewalt batteries (all of them) i cant recharge any of them because they are too hot. i stick all my batts in the freezer to cool them faster so can charge atleast one to continue my socket customization. i fart around in the yard for about an hour and finally one of my batteries is charged so i can continue. i get the 1/2" drill bit through the socket and woohoo! it now fits over the ipr stem. i get my rig all put back together and fire it up to see what the happs on the craps is and BAM! all is fine and dandy with my duty cyle numbers. its idling smoother and just even sounds better. well the boy now has to go to soccer practice so i load the fam up in the rig since its already running and head out. when we get home from practice i smell a little more diesel smell than you normally would from a straight piped beast idling in an enclosed space (the garage) so i pop the friggin hood and what do i see? the motherlovin' fuel bowl drain valve is leaking now! the funny (not so funny) thing about this was i just had that darn bowl out a week ago doing the darn hpop change. moral of this story: change those puppies when they are easy to get to! i even have 2 sets of fuel bowl drain mil-spec style o-rings i got from guzzle about 2 months ago when i ordered like 60 bucks worth of o-rings. by the way thanks guzzle for your how to page on this particular matter it is a perfect picture and instruction how to and went smooth as can be. (not normal for me).....................

just thought i'd share a "if it can go wrong story it will" with you all. thanks for being a great site............

I've been there before. My last time was when the wife just got her truck. Torqued the injectors & rockers and somehow knocked the plug off the #5 injector while putting the valve cover back on. She starts it up with a slight miss and a CEL and says I broke her truck.

It never seems to go as planned.

Aint it fun!! Nothing like spending some quality time with the truck - yeah right!! At least the fuel drain o-rings is an easy job.

I did the same thing. My truck though. Just frustrating.

well i thought i had her whipped! turns out it was also both fittings that goes from my fuel bowl to the hard fuel lines. apparently i fugged up the little rubber gasket things when re-installing my fuel bowl. so i decided to get the fuel bowl delete kit! theres more than one way to skin a cat! nearly got it all taken out today except for the dang uppie to turbo v-band clamp. that sob gets me everytime......................
