well my oil cooler has been leaking for a while now but yesterday i noticed that it was gotten worse and its gonna need fixin now. how difficult would this be? where can i get the o-rings at a better price (stealership price around 90+)? could this be done in a few hours time since i dont want to be to long with out the truck?
i think you are forgetting you need 4 orings, (2 big and 2 small) and also 2 gaskets where it meets the block.
heres a whole kit powerstroke shop oil coooler re-seal
and heres just the o-rings FTE parts guy
Gaskets are supposed to be reusable...but, unless you just had it apart a few weeks ago, I'd get new ones. And online is the best place for the o-rings.....unless you know a ford parts guy.
It can be done in a few hours.
Drp the coolant and oil, remove oil filter, loosen passenger side engine mount nuts and remove the drivers side ones. Remove the 10mm bolts ( 2 front, 3 rear) on the oil cooler, raice the motor untill its high enough to slide the complete cooler out towards the rear of the engine.
Pull the oil coler apart by removing the aluminum parts of either end, clean reall well, reassemble with new o-rings (lube them ofcourse). A bar clamp like you'd use for woodworking works well to reassemble the cooler.
