Front tire replacement

We have a 2004 F-350 and one of the front tires shredded on the interstate the other night. Other than my running it about 45 miles/day lately to get to work while my commuter car is in the shop, it generally doesn't get run much and rarely ever in 4wd.

I put the spare on it and my wife took it to get the tire replaced today for me. Both of the front tires weren't in the best of shape and unfortunately money has been tight. I had her get two new tires for the front.

I don't think I can afford six new tires at this point and the rear ones look pretty good right now. I've read some things online about how you should replace them all when you do. But like I said, money is tight right now and I'd like to avoid doing that if possible.

Can I just replace the fronts and be OK? The guy at the tire place said that they had to tell us that all the tires had to be replaced and that they wouldn't be held liable if we didn't replace them all.

Thanks for your response.

Matt

You should be just fine,as long as the tread looks good and like you said,it doesn't get driven much. The tire guy just wants to get deeper into your wallet.

Thanks

Thanks - I'm definitely trying to keep the bills down - my commuter car had the water pump go out on it last week and its prognosis is grim. When it rains, it pours.

Have a good one,
Matt

I certainly wouldn't replace the rear tires just because of replacing the fronts.
