I just picked up a 6.0 diesel from the Wichita, Ks Fire dept with 152k on it...the turbo was replaced at 137k.....drove it home 1035 miles to Knoxville, Tn at 70 mph and got 18.4 MPG. The truck ran perfect...not a miss.....NOW....the problems....I should first say that I bought a new 01 f-250 with a 7.3 in my past...this Ex is doing the same thing when it comes to the steering....it wont return to center when your in a curve...so....I am guessing its ball joints?? the steering felt "sticky" other than that it was great...I heard the stories about the 6.0 diesel...is there any spare parts I need to carry...like the CPS I had with my 7.3? Thanks in advance....Garth

Reason: because i cant write!!
"....is there any spare parts I need to carry...."
I carry my girlfriend just in case my wife is having a rough day
other than that (and a helmet) - nothing - I just drive it
on our last trip of 100 miles or so, drove slow (65) because we had a long audio book playing on the gps that wasn't going to end in time the O.H. said 21.6 mpg !!!!
Don't know about the turning bit, but the 6.0 is awesome. I've had zero engine problems, and i drive it like a race car. I just did my front driver wheel bearing/hub, and a few months ago the alternator. The turning bit, try the steering rack would be my only guess. thinking about the guts under there, that's the only thing that i can imagine, if the hydraulic strut isn't compressing or expanding as it should.
I bought on 04 Ex with the 6.0 about almost 3 months ago. It's proven to be a great vehicle thus far.
There is a lot of useful information on this site. One of the first things I did was adjust the steering box to reduce the amount of slop. It took a whole 20 minutes to do and has worked wonders. There is a writeup on this forum for that.
Well...thanks everyone....as for the ball joints...when ford did mine under warranty they replaced the lower one....I "think" it had a zerk fitting...I think the fact that you could NOT grease the joint it wore and became tight...all I know is that it worked...
