Gas Vs. Diesel

I did a search but could not find what I need.

I have to options. I can either get an F-350 crew cab 4x4 with the Powerstroke engine or the same truck with a gas engine.

I'm really stuck on which one to get. The diesel has 200k on it. The gas engine has 90k on it. Please help!

Well, what are you looking for in the truck? Do you want power, fuel efficiency, towing capabilities? Then you'd probably want diesel. 200k is relatively low for a diesel so I wouldn't worry about that.

Or do you just need a daily driver and don't have much need for heavy duty use? Then gas would probably be your best bet. Not that an F-350 gas engine can't be a heavy duty truck, but it wouldn't tolerate it as well as the diesel. Likewise 90k isn't overly high for a gas engine either.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the diesel would probably be more efficient than the gas; but I think diesel is more expensive than gas right now too.

Decide on what it is you're looking for and there's your answer. Also consider the price and body conditions of the trucks. You don't want to pay too much for too little.

I'd say go diesel. It's much better engine. As far as their life expectancy. If you're pulling with the truck the diesel will live much longer and get better gas mileage.

diesel- easy to mod, better fuel consumption also easy to get mor fuel milage out of, last longer motor wise- but usually more expensive to replace parts

How much are each.
Which gas engine is it.
What do you plan to use the truck for.
What kind of milage are you expecting out of each engine.

200 is kinda high but i have seen these trucks go into the mid 300's but not without parts(injectors, harnesses, glow plugs, relays)
The auto trans is a weak link in either the gas or diesel

I say go with the diesel unless you dont wanna mod it and like the quick acceleration of the gas engine. You'll get worse mileage with the gas engine though and it won't tow as easily, but the 351 and the 460 both tow amazingly well, just not like a diesel does though. More info is needed for us to give better advice. Based on the mileage though, they're both getting to where parts are gonna start going if they're factory

that is a tough decision if its between a diesel and a 460 than its even harder than a 351

diesel-- built to tow, lasts long, better mpg than the 460 (but diesel can cost more), gaining power is easier and cheaper but eventually limited by the nature of diesel (this is in terms of speed as gas engines are more designed to go fast vs diesels are designed to pull they're already turbo'd vs a gas isn't but they just need more fuel to gain power -that was a ramble sorry and just an opinion)

460-also tows great, stock vs stock its faster, also goes to very high mileage (have heard up to 500k is common), built up your talkin about 1 mean motor, mpg sucks on it

351- again a great motor, better mpg, plenty of power to get the job done

--all reliable motors, personally i love the 7.3powerstroke in our excursion, the 6.0s in our work trucks are great, and i have seen great older ones that were monsters, i thought i would never want anything but diesel then found my truck now i love the 460 alot of people wouldn trade their 351, 460, or powerstroke for the world

goodluck with the decision i don't know how i would decide unless i was buying a vehicle only to haul a very heavy trailer then diesel is probably the best way
