Hello!
Can anyone tell me the normal operating pressure at the fuel rack for an '87 E-150 w/a 302EFI? I'm reading around 36 psi when running.
Also, I get 0 psi when I first hook up the gauge and no pressure increase when I turn the ignition (w/o starting). I can hear the main pump kick in, but don't see a pressure increase. It takes about 30 sec for the pressure to rise to the 36 psi mark after I start the van. The pressure falls off slowly (~30 min) after I shut it down. Is that normal? I was expecting the pressure to come up to 40 psi when I turned the key (w/o starting) and for it to hold for hours afterward.
Started troubleshooting after it stalled on the road a few times. (Kinda ticked off the wife!) It would re-start after setting a while, still can't figure that one out.
Sounds like a bad regulator - the silver disc on the fuel rail held on by 3 screws with a vac line in the middle. See if there's gas in the vac line (shouldn't be) and see if pulling the line makes the pressure increase (it should go to 40-45psi).
Thanks for the note. I replaced the fuel regulator but still have the same symptoms. No fuel in the vac line, checked that one as well. I think I'll replace the pump and see what I get. (I hate being a parts swapper, but sometimes thats what needs to be done.)
