Gooey fuel Smelling black stuff under gas tank.
So I came out to my truck this morning, and I see a puddle under my truck just under the front tank. Its a 1995 F-150 Super cab 4WD with a 5spd and the 300 Inline six. There is a strong odor of fuel and there is a droplet on the piece of sheathing the goes in front of and under the gas tank. The underside of the tank appears to be wet. I don't see any holes in the tank, Just what I wrote. Need help, Any body know what happened? Pictures to follow very shortly.

the goopy black stuff is on the factory straps. it's like a rubber of some sort they use so the metal tank doesnt rub against the metal straps to the point that a hole forms. They probably aren't gas proof though so when the gas hit them they just melted away haha. I didn't replace them when i got my new tank and straps though, if you tighten your straps nice and tight i don't think there's gonna be much movement

i also learned that whatever type of rubber ford used to seal the evap canister hose in the fuel tank got melted to the old tank. Now I'm waiting on a replacement to be shipped while i suffer from gas fumes while driving. Also overflowed the tank at the gas station because the line wasn't sealed in the tank. I love trying things that you know you shouldn't lol

Hey I just went throught this process with my truck, 94 F-250. My front tank was rusted out where the rubbery tar stuff sits right against the cross members on the frame. I would be more then willing to give you any advice on swapping the tank, just finished the swap tonight. I bought a plastic tank instead of another metal one cause I never wanna go through this again. Shoot me an email droby90@yahoo.com if I can help you in any way.

i just replaced the tank and fuel pump, bought a performance electric instead of the whole module bc it was half the price. Works great. Installation went very smoothly just that evap hose. The rubber fitting is ruined so I'm not getting a seal there. It overflowed out of that hole at the gas station. I went to a dealer today and ordered one of the fittings. It'll be in tomorrow morning. After replacing the tank and pump yesterday and getting a gas bath while replacing my fuel filter today, I have to say I look forward to the ease of sliding a piece of rubber in haha. I'll offer any advice too. 2 things I wish I would have known: Fuel line tool is needed(the push in kind), and the wiring on top of the fuel pump connects to a harness on the frame rail. Those 2 combined had me stumped for 2 hours
