fuel gauge problems

fuel gauge problems
whenever my gastank gets to a half tank the gauge goes to E. could this be the gauge or the float or even the resister attached to the float? this is pissing me off so i would like to fix this soon.

Sounds to me like the sender. The 80-86 trucks are the worst; they have a notoriously bad sender design. I've lost count on how many times mine has been replaced, and my guage isn't working properly now. Maybe someone has figured out a better replacement.

yea, all of my friends w/ the same body-design truck (80-85) have the same problem. even the bronco's have the same prob. i can get a sender free from a '74 f-100 w/ 360ci. and larger fuel tank. will the sender be the same?
