Our systems are self purging. Our truck comes with a degas bottle.
BTW: Any time there is a pressure cap on the 'coolant bottle' it's a degas system, if not, it's just a coolant over-flow bottle.

FWIW, '94.5 - early '95 PSD had the traditional radiator cap with no degas bottle...

Also from what I understand the '94-'95 were equiped with the 203° stat factory.
The '96-'97 have to be bought from dieselsite only.

Why do they need a thermostat with that high of a temp?

The engine runs better at that temp. There's a write-up about it somewhere, but I can't remember where it is. Maybe someone will chime in and post it.

Cuz I'd say you have a late '95. July or August is when the model year starts, cut off is Jan/Feb ish, if I recall all of this correctly.
Then again they made some minor changes in the '94.5 - '95 model years so who knows exactly when the cut-off was. Just like the '99 - '99.5 cut off. The early '99's have some off the wall stuff on them...

The degas bottle was installed if your truck was made after January 23rd, 1995.

Mine missed the cutoff and I have a regular radiator cap with a overflow bottle. If I ever replace the radiator, mine's getting a degas bottle.

So are you converting from an overflow to a degas system?

no my post may be a bit unclear, i'm just changing the t-stat to the 203* from dieselsite, i didn't know i had the self purging system..which i look now, and i do. i was just enquiring to find out how i would make sure i didn;t any air in the system, but it turns out it will be quite simple with the de-gas bottle!
