got a few questions about my oil pressure. when i am accelerating at normal rates and cruising at 65-70mph my oil pressure stays at the "m" in normal. if i cruise at 75-80 mph the gauge starts to flutter between the "o" and the "m". if i run it to 2500 rpm and then floor it the gauge drops all the way down. possibly oil pump going bad on me?
If you have the stock gauge and sender and it's moving around check the sender by the oil filter. Might just be a loose connection or a bad sender or gauge. The gauge is just a indicator IIRC.
You need to get a REAL Oil Pressure gauge so you will know what is really going on. like PJwoolw said, the factory gauge is just an indicator.
A idiot light with a pointer if you will.
The oil pressure sender for the dash gauge is on the top of the HPOP (sender is on the left in picture).
Be sure the wire connector is tight on the sender.
Do not worry about engine damage from a lack of oil pressure...no pressure = no injectors firing.

phillips,
my gauge was doing this also after i had dun some work under the hood. i must have loosened the wire on top of the HPOP like in jims pic. check that sensor stud for dirt and make sure its tight. im sure its just a bad connection.

thanks for the pic jim. i was just under the hood not too long ago changing glow plugs, relay and a valve spring, and im sure at some point something was on top of the hpop. it wasnt missing or anything like that, so probably is just a bad connection.
