While leaving work today, I was traveling about 65-70 up Md 29 and my truck just quit. No warning, no sputtering, just like someone shut the key off. Got it off the side of the road and am trying to figure out what might be wrong. I just filled up with fuel yesterday morning and it has never given me an indication something is wrong.
The good news, I have an international dealer not far away and a buddies truck for running around in.
The bad news, I am 160 miles from home and AAA only tows 100 miles on the gold plan now
Cam sensor is a likely possibility. Check the fuses though. I know on the 97 trucks there is a fuse that goes to the heater in the fuel filter that when shorted out will shut the truck off. To fix that, all you need to do is unplug the heater and replace the fuse. I don't remember the fuse though, or if it applies to the newer trucks though.

Well, got it figured out. It was the CPS, Gotta check to see if it was done on the recall. I ended up breaking my 10mm socket tryin to get it out, so I called a tow truck to get it to a parking lot. The driver says he knows a good shop, he calls and tells me they told him 30bucks. Well, as usual, the shop says $30 is to reset SES light and $40 to install. I didnt push the issue to hard since I didnt actually talk to anyone at the shop, but I did get a bit loud to no avail. So, That is probably the last time I will visit that shop in Elkridge. I dont like the idea of someone else wrenching on my stuff anyway, but I REALLy didnt like where I was (Side of a busy road at an off ramp) and I didnt want to have to drive all over creation to get what I needed. So, I am off to get some better tools for the tool box, and to get another CPS to put in the glove box.

Glad you got it up and going Hab
I had 2 CPS in my truck. 1 new one and my old one after the recall and about 3 weeks ago coming home from work I passed a stranded PS on the side of the road there was a guy and 2 kids with a truck load. I stopped and ask if he needed any help, or a phone to call some one he said naw just a ride to the next exit I looked and his plates where from GA. I ask what happened and he said it just quit. I ask him about his CPS and I could tell he didn't have a clue. I ask him to pop the hood and and let me take a look. I put in my old CPS and it started like a champ. Man were those kids happy, he tried to give me $100.00 and I say no thanks but get a new CPS and put it in the glove box with a 10mm socket. I told him to check out FTE and he can learn alot and maybe help some one out one day.
