OK, I was thumbing through my new LMC truck catalog, and saw these "blue dots" that go in the tail light lens. They give a slight purple glow at night. Every 49-51 Ford that you see at car shows, has them installed.
What are your opinions on these blue dots? And do you think the "Law" would pull over a 78 Bronco equipped with these?
I've seen them alot on cars and trucks here in S. Fla., even seen them on a semi, but they're usually on kid's cars/trucks. While I think they look cool (especially on the semi), I wouldn't want 'em on any of our vehicles. We like to do our own thing and not the "in" thing.
As for getting pulled over cause of them, I don't believe it's a factor, at least not down here. Maybe cause there's so many of them.
I haven't had any blue dots in about 5 years. I had them on my '91 VFR750 motorcycle, and was pulled over here in Georgia and ticketed for improper equipment. He told me that the only color allowed in a taillight is red, no difference in car/truck/motorcycle.
I still see a lot of motors, Harleys mostly, and older pickup trucks that have them. I don't know how they get away with it...
They are illegal here in Ks. also. See 'em on the show cars but have seen very few on the hiways around here. I think it looks cool but I don't need the hassle. Besides I have six tailights. It would definatly look purple behind me!!!!!
>Blue dots are illegal in a lot of States, I have them on my
>53Merc and haven't been stopped yet in NY or PA.
I know I saw refference to this in the state of washington's RCW
just found it
RCW 46.37.100
(3) All lighting [automobile] devices [must be] red, amber, or yellow, and ***except that on any vehicle forty or more years old, the taillight may also contain a blue or purple insert of not more than one inch in diameter***, and except that the light illuminating the license plate shall be white and the light emitted by a back-up lamp shall be white or amber. [truncated/paraphrazed]
Now were they get the 40 years old part is beyond me, so in my state, you can presently have a blue dot on a 1962 or before.
