The diesel does hold its value longer, even with the higher up front purchase cost. Ive seen them at auctions, and I really noticed it when I was shopping for a truck of my own.

Now if your like me and keep your vehicles for a long time, well then resale is not an issue.

I seem to go for what I want, gets good economy (for the size) and is the most reliable.

Dunno what Im gonna do when its time to replce the 7.3...

Marlon I remember BS'n with ya about getting a commuter vehicle at the last meet. The one crappy thing about that, is could you imagine hopping in your beater, and leaving that brand new truck parked in the driveway at home!

I think a V10 would be a good idea for someone who doesn't put on alot of miles but, still needs pulling power once in awhile. If you only put on 20 g's a year the difference in cost between 15 mpg and 20 doesn't add up to a whole lot. (to me anyways)

The difference over 120,000 miles works out to between 1 and 2 cents a mile, provided the cost of gas and diesel remain the same. When diesel exceeds gas price wise.......(and it has)...then the gasser can be even cheaper to operate. We haven't seen the ultimate price on ULSD settle out yet. Let's see what the price is when winter hits and the oil companies switch to high volume production of heating oil. ULSD hasen't been out that long, and I expect most fuel stations to eventually carry only ULSD.

Up here diesel is usually at least 20 cents a liter cheaper then regular gas. Theres a couple months out of the year when that does go the other way around too.

Ive heard the newer diesels are more expensive to maintain, but my ol 7.3 is very reasonable to maintain.

I would love to find a low mileage 7.3l to use just for pulling, but they are next to impossible to find. I would be fine with a V10 as well. I would like to take a V10 for a test drive but most dealers don't have one on there lot here. There was a couple at Merlin in Saskatoon when we were home for the meet. Might have to make another trip to Saskatoon.

On a side note, my dad's 6.0l is leaking from the rear main seal and the dealer needs it for a week. not good for a truck with only 40,000klm on it.

Unfortunatly Marlon, thats a very very common problem with the 6 liter engine.

Thats a minor one though, believe it or not. If he gets a "bad" 6 liter engine, he can look forward to head gasket replacements, turbo's, injectors, heads, and thats just a few things.

Lets hope he got a good one!

I hope it is a good, 6.0l too, he has already been talking about trading it off on a duramax. He has been a ford guy ever since I have been around, I hope he is just all talk cause he will never live it down if he buys a chevy.

believe me, (i know a former diesel tech very well) and the duramax's aren't a walk in the park either. the reason they get raved so much is the ability to make cheap power... on the maintenance side if things, they're no better than the '05 and up 6.0's... only solid diesel of the 2000's...the cummins... too bad its surrounded by such a turd of a truck.

No kidding eh, its sad.

I dont know much about duramaxes either, but I can tell you then arent as common as a psd or a dodge out in alberta!

I didnt know they could be done up cheap either. I did know they are supposed to be pretty fast in stock form though.
